Sydney Angels typically backs startups in a series of cohorts through a process based on strict meritocracy, removing unconscious bias through a blind application process. By blocking an applicant’s age, gender and ethnicity during the first phase of the process, they are finding that founders have a better chance at a gaining a seat at the table. Shunning the ‘boys' club’ moniker, setting goals of a 20% female member base, and funding commitments agreed to by a diverse and robust executive member team, we look forward to seeing the dent in D&I that the Sydney Angels growth will put on the landscape within the next couple of years.
